STILL ANOTHER. NOVELIST

Dear Miss Rutledge,— I am anxious to have your advice on a certain matter. I have Tvritten « book, a novel, but have no idea as to the procedure to take to have it published. Will you kindly furnish me with the necessary information, and also the names of any publishers to whom I could submit the manuscript. PUZZLED. ANSWER (’beers! May your efforts meet with •very success. You no doubt appreciate I the power of the written word, and its ftiportnnhr to reach a large public* also J

its tremendous scope for self-expression and the development of character. So often we find the ability of a writer living long after the passing from this life, whereas in many other professions achievement passes, and is all too soon forgotten. Why not submit your story to the editor of an American magazine for publication in serial form? I would suggest “Good Housekeeping,” 119 West Fortieth Street, New York City, or “McCall’s Magazine,” 236 West Thirty-seventh Street, New York City, if your novel holds a special appeal for women. These magazines, as well as others published in New York and Philadelphia, pay handsome figures for accepted work, and why not hitch your wagon to a star? I could advise you more fully if I knew the nature of yoiir work. Send further particulars, and in the meantime peruse a good writers’ trade journal, which should furnish names of publishing houses both in London and America. ANNE RUTLEDGE.
