TAX FOR TALKIE STARS

VICTORIAN PREMIER’S FIRM VIEWS “MUSICIANS NOW MISFITS” SYDNEY, Wednesday. The question of banning mechanical music, which is displacing orchestras in picture theatres, will be raised at the State Premiers’ Conference, to be held next week. The Premier of Victoila, Ml'. E. J. Hogan, holds definite views on the subject. He says musicians, after having spent a life-time in study, are now misfits in any other callings, simply owing to the stranglehold which America has upon the cinema industry. It was only a question of time when there would be no real musicians. The only way in which to deal with actors and actresses in talkies Is to tax them, says Mr. Hogan, as is being done in the case of those who appear in Australia in person.
