HOSPITAL FACILITIES
LARGER DISPENSARY WANTED MONEY FOR NEW BLOCK Improved accommodation at the dispensary connected with the relief department of the Auckland Hospital is being sought by the Hospital Board. The question was referred to the building committee yesterday afternoon, the chairman, Mr. W. Wallace, remarking that the present restricted dispensary, attached to a chemist’s shop near the Town Hall, was a disgrace to the board.. The appointment of a nurse was suggested, and Dr. E. B. Gunson suggested having the improved dispensary placed near, or in, the hospital grounds. A report from the finance committee said about £34,000 would be needed to complete the infectious diseases block. The committee recommended efforts to secure £IO,OOO immediately at per cent., as money was dear at the moment, and there was a prospect of a. fall shortly. The committee was confident that the sum proposed could be obtained. Applications are to be invited for the positions of surgical and medical registrars, each at a salary of £6OO. The positions entail supervision of the work of the resident medical officers, responsibility for surgical and medical cases in the absence of the honorary surgeons or physicians, supervision of case histories in the wards, classification of records and diseases, and other duties allocated by the medical superintendent.
