MANUKAU PARK
SUGGESTED NAME FOR WAIKOWHAI DOMAIN HARBOUR BOARD BUSINESS Manukau Park was suggested as a name for a section at Waikowhai, which has been vested in the Crown as a public domain. The request was received at the meeting of the Auckland Harbour Board yesterday afternoon from the Commissioner of Crown Lands. Mr. M. H. Wynyard, chairman of the board, suggested the name. Sir .Charles Fergusson forwarded a telegram thanking the board for its farewell message on bis departure from New Zealand. An application from an oil company regarding the lease of sections on the Western Reclamation caused the chairman to remark that there was a fair demand already for sections on the new area. The company suggested that the land be put up for auction, instead of by public tender. A donation of £lO was made to the Shipwreck Relief Society of New Zealand. The society s-tated In a letter that its funds had been depleted by calls after the Manuka wreck. The Auckland Winter Exhibition Committee wrote asking for permission to occupy the Central Wharf sheds in July, on the same terms as last year. Permission was granted, but with the provision that the board be insured against loss of life and property during the time the committee occupied the sheds. The board agreed to the request of the Auckland Amusement Park to reduce the amount of the insurance from £IO,OOO to £5,000. The Finance Committee reported on the question of the surrender of the old lease and the issue of a new one to C. W. Walt Jang and Co., in Lower Queen Street. It was recommended that the board agree to accept the surrender of the present lease, and grant a new one, provided a building costing not less than £30,000 be erected by the lessees within two years.
