AMATEUR ATHLETICS
PAPATOETOE CLUB SPORTS SUCCESSFUL EVENING MEETING Keen competition was \\ messed by n largo attendance of spectators at the meeting held by the Papatoetoe Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club last evening. The track was in splendid condition, and sum© close finishes were witnessed. This is the first meeting of a series of three for an aggregate points medal. Details of the events arc: 175Yds. Handicap.—S. Nicholson, I; A. Dawson, 33'ds., 2; R. Bennett, 7vd>, 3. Nine runners faced the starter. Nicholson set up a fast clip from the pistol, and took the lead early, maintaining the advantage to the post. Dawson put. in good sprint over the final 25 yards, but was beaten only by inches. Benin i•_ filled third place two feet back. COOYds. Handicap.—S. Nicholson. 27yd.-. J; R. XlcKenzie, scr, 2; <\ Anderson. Syd.-. 3. After leading for practically the distance, Nicholson gained the verdict by one yard. A keen struggle was witnessed for second place. Anderson held that position till a couple of yards off the tap* . k when XlcKenzie darted ahead and passed the post inches ahead of Anderson. One Xlile Cycle Handicap.—Brain. 70yds. 1; Johnson. 80yds, 2: Jones, 35yds, 3. Presentation of Xfedals.—During the meeting, Mr. XV. J. Hindman, president of the club, presented the points medal to R. XlcKenzie. who pained the aggregate points medal for the first series of six evening meetings for the 3929-30 season. XlcKenzie was only unplaced one - in hJs starts, and on that occasion lie filled fourth place, being beaten only byinches. Medals Mon for the events run on Saturday afternoon were also pr< - sented as follow:—R. Bennett, 220yds; « Anderson, 100yds.
