UNITED PARTY MEETING

PRIME MINISTER WILL ATTEND CABINET MEETING ALSO Press Association WELLINGTON, Tuesday, The Prime Minister, Sir Joseph Ward, telephoning from Rotorua tonight, reiterated his statement made yesterday that he would attend a special meeting of supporters of the United Party which is to be held at Wellington on Friday. "I will arrive in Wellington on Friday morning,” Sir Joseph said. Asked whether he Intended to aseturn to Rotorua after the meeting, the Prime Minister replied' that he had not made any arrangements yet. A meeting of Cabinet has been called for 10,30 a.m. on Friday, when it is expected all the Ministers will be present. As the result of inquiries a reporter was informed that the meeting of the United Party on Friday has no political significance such as has been given to it. Its business is purely of a domestic nature, concerning the organisation, and it is at present doubtful if the Prime Minister will be present. There will be a meeting of Cabinet on Friday morning.

KEEPING FAITH "THE UNITED PARTY HAS HONESTLY TRIED—” PLANS FOR CONFERENCE Several officers of the United Party organisation in Auckland will attend the Dominion conference of the party -which will be held in Wellington during the weekend. A meeting of the Auckland executive, was held yesterday afternoon. Mr. Jonathan Trevithick, chairman, stated after the meeting that he would be attending the conference, with several other officers.

The Wellington conference will be concerned with more effective organisation of the party. He also stated that as far he knew, no one had been appointed chairman in place of Mr. Davey. Such an appointment would not be made until the party had conferred on the subject. Mr. Trevithick described as ridiculous, the suggestion that Sir Joseph Ward was rc> igning the leadership ~of the party. After the conference the Auckland organisation would be “livened up” and every effort would be made to make the Province solid for the United Party. Mr. Trevithick declined to make any comment on party policies—except to say that under very difficult circumstances, the party had honestly tried to redeem its promises and would keep faith with the electors.
