CONVICTED THIEFS BAD REPORT THREE MONTHS’ GAOL „ ) s nothing much good to be said Ot this man, commented Mr. F. w L S - M ” when Edward Allwonhy Martin appeared for sentence at the Police Court this morning on charges of theft and false pretences He was sentenced to three months’ imprisonment. Martin, a labourer, aged 29 was with stealing a cheque for £ll 4s from W J. Carbine on January o and obtaining liquor to the Thnma 0 / rV from Geor S e Walker Thomas Daniels at Onehunga on November 18 by means of a valueless cheque. The first charge had originally been forgery, but was reduced to theft at accused’s first appearance when he. pleaded guilty. He was then stated to have stolen a cheque from his employer and cashed it in an hotel in the city. Mr Hunt added .that the man had not been supporting his wife. The gaol term was imposed on the theft c.targe. On the second charge Martin was convicted and discharged.
