WAIKATO NOTES

Miss Nell Pittar has returned to Hamilton from a visit to Wellington. Mrs. A. J. Kernot. of Hinuera. is at present visiting friends in North Auckland. Miss Valentine, of Wellington, head of the department supervising the education of retarded children, is in Hamilton. WELCOMES TO BRIDES Mr. and Mrs. F. Roberts were welcomed to their new home in Matangi on Thursday evening by a very merry party. About 40 guests gaily garbed in fancy dress gave them a surprise party, and a very bright time was spent in dancing and song. Among those present were Mrs. R. Ranstead, Mrs. Pilkington, Mrs. T. Ranstead, Mrs. Elliott, Mrs. R. Elliott. Mrs. Harper. Mrs. G. Hampton, Mrs. W. Ranstead. Miss B. Johnstone. Miss J. Stuart, Miss W. McNickle. Miss Daldy, Miss N. Roberts. Miss S. Quick, Miss J. Phillipp, Miss Copey, Miss E. Scherer and Elliott. On Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs. R. Butcher, of Matangi, were the guests of honour at a very cheery welcome home party in the Matangi Hall. The guests brought gifts and kitchen utensils for the young couple, who had a very pleasant time unwrapping the many parcels. In addition Mr. J. T. Bryant, on behalf of the Ladies’Guild, asked Mrs. Butcher to accept a set of pyrex ware as an appreciation of her work with them. Games, music, supper and song made the evening pass very happily. IN CAMBRIDGE Miss Maimie Fisher, who is leaving Cambridge shortly for a visit to England, was the guest of honour at a pleasant party given by the Misses Flora and Clara Hooker in Cambridge recently. Competitions were won by Miss M. Fisher, Mrs. A. Gane and Mrs. Arthur Pearce. Miss Fisher was presented with a pretty farewell gift from her friends. Among those present were Miss F. Hooker. Miss C. Hooker. Mrs. Ferguson, senr., Mrs. Hugh Ferguson. Mrs. Olilson, Mrs. Hall, Mrs. O. Gane. Mrs. A. Gane. Mrs. Palmer, Mrs. H. D. Hooker. Mrs. C. Pearce, Mrs. Savory, Mrs. Cannell. Airs. Anderson. Miss Trestrale (Australia), and Miss P. Anderson. * A PRESENTATION Miss Mackay, of Newstead, who is leaving shortly for England, and who for some years has been in charge of the Newstead School, was presented on Friday afternoon with a travelling clock from the pupils. Miss Mackay’s absence will be greatly regretted.
