CIVIC
“SUNNY SIDE UP” Two great stars, an all-star supporting cast, a delightful story, plenty of comedy and a half-dozen sensational song hits is the combination presented in “Sunny Side Up,” Fox Movietone musical comedy which was shown again last evening before a capacity audience at the Civic Theatre. Janet Gaynor and Charles Farrell, making their musical comedy debut, give an amazing performance. Both have pleasing voices and sang their song numbers in a manner that brought bursts of spontaneous applause from the audience. Miss Gaynor also blossoms out as a dancer and proves she is as proficient in the terpsichorean art as she is in acting. The remainder of the Civic’s programme is of the usual high standard of dancing and music that one always gets from the Civic. Fred Scholl earns warm applause for his organ playing, and Ted Henkel’s Civic Orchestra for the overture, “The Mikado.” The remarkable dancing of the Continental trio, Ramon, Madeline and Pedro, is the outstanding feature of the stage entertainment, “Parisienne.” I The Civic Ballet introduces a number ; of new dances and the band plays as delightfully as ever.
