“GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY” The “gold digging” adventures of four New York dancing girls have been woven into an entertaining plot in “Gold Digers of Broadway,” the gorgeous Warner Brothers’ and Vitaphone all-talking and colour production which will be shown at the St. Janies Theatre for only a few more days. The refusal of a millionaire to sanction the marriage of Wally, his nephew, to Violet, a chorus girl of their acquaintance, because he dislikes the stage, causes the four to champion the side of the two lovers. The brilliantly tinted scenes. the elaborate stage settings, and the cleverly conceived ensembles form an admirable background for the plot, while popular features are the numerous vocal and dance numbers. Winnie Lightner, Conway Tearle, Helen Foster and Nick Lucas head the cast. The features which are shown in support include the overture from “Orpheus”; items by Van and Schenck; “Realisation.” an amusing comedy-drama, and a pleasing Gance by the Vitaphone Girls. entitled “Serpentine.”
