CAULFIELD RACES STANDARD BEARER’S CUP United P. A.—By Telegraph—Copyright MELBOURNE, Sunday. The Victoria Amateur Turf Club’s meeting opened at Caulfield yesterday in fine weather. The St. George Stakes resulted in an easy victory for the New South Wales gelding Amounis. Phar Lap finished third. This was Pliar Lap’s first race since he contested the Melbourne Cup at Flemington in November. Amounis has now won 25 races and his winnings in prize money amount to £33,000. The following are the details of the racing; WARREIN HURDLE RACE Of £600; 2 miles and 65yds HONORIUM, 9.12, Franklin 1 CHUMREE, 10.7 2 RAKAVOOL, 12.3 3 Five started. Won by a head, threequarters of a length between second and third. Time, 3.43 J. FEDERAL STAKES Of £1,000; for two-year-olds; 5 fur. First Division THURLSTONS. 8.12, A. Reed .. .. t. 1 GERBERA, 7.10 . 2 PATRICIAN, 5.5 3 Fourteen started. Won by a length, two lengths between second and third. Time. l.Og. Second Division GOLDEN LULLABY, 7.13, Cooper .. 1 FORFEIT, 7.12 2 GIROUETTE. 5.7 3 Thirteen started. AVon by three-quar-ters of a length, a length between second and third. Time, 1.12. BOND CUP Of £1.250; li miles. STANDARD BEARER, 7.5, Wilson 1 KENDLEIt. 6.7. Evans " 2 PINNACLE. 7.5, Elliott 3 Fifteen started. Standard Bearer won easily by a length and a-lialf from Kendler, who finished well and defeated Pinnacle by half a length for second place. Finsbury was fourth and Petto was fifth. Time. 2.34. The majority were troublesome at the barrier ajid delayed the start for 17 minutes. Taurus went to the front from Remora, Cleave. Greener and King of Revelry. After going a couple of *irlongs Figure obtained the lead and she maintained her advantage, winning comfortably by a length, with hair a length between second and third. King of Revelry was fourth, then came Cleave and Pamona. Time. 1.62. ST. GEORGE STAKES Of £1,000: weight-for-age. with penalties and allowances: 1 mile and a fur. AMOUNIS, 9.9, J. Southern Cross, staged a dazzling finish to win his third pony cup, when he carried oft the Ascot Cup, winning both first division and the run-off.
