OPENING OF MAIN CHAMBER

MAGNIFICENT GIFT ORGAN Press Association DUNEDIN, Sunday. The main chamber of the new Town Hall at Dunedin, which has seating accommodation for 3,0TT0 people, was filled to overflowing last evening when it was ofllcially opened by the Mayor, Mr. R. S. Black. In was a double event, inasmuch as Dr. W. G. Price, of Melbourne, ofllcially took his seat at the great organ for the first time. The function took the form of a concert by massed choirs, under the baton of Dr. V. E. Galway, and solo work by Dr. Price on the organ. The meeting accorded musical honours to Mr. and Mrs. A. S. Paterson for their £ 17,000-gift for the purchase of the organ. After Mr. H. T. Tapley had proposed a vote of thanks. Mr. W. B. Taverner. Minister of Railways, who represented the Government, conveyed Cabinet’s hearty congratulations. The capacity of the great hall was again taxed to its utmost this afternoon when Divine service was held under the auspices of the Council of Christian Congregations.
