KAYE DONS HOPE
“SILVER BULLET” READY FOR HIGH SPEED
MACHINE’S UNIQUE DESIGN Reed. 11 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. Mr. Kaye Don is leaving London for Daytona, Florida, next week in preparation for an attempt to beat the existing world speed record of 231 miles an hour, held by Sir Henry Segrave. Don Is extremely satisfied with the Silver Bullet, the car specially constructed at the Sunbeam works in Wolverhampton for the attempt. It is remarkably designed, among its features being an air brake resembling an airplane rudder with which the car will he slowed down before the ordinary brakes are applied, thus reducing skid danger. It also has as ice tank through which water will pass to prevent overheating. The car has two 12-cylinder engines tunning at the remarkable rate of 4.000 revolutions a minute. Each engine weighs less than l.OOOlbs, yet each develops 2,000 horsepower—an engineering achievement never before equalled. Don says that a test shows that the car can do 275 miles an hour, hut he expects 1 to lose 25 miles an hour travelling, and will be satisfied with 240 or 250 miles jit Daytona.
