ROWING
TRIALS PREVENTED Bad tides and unfavourable weather prevented the 'West End and St. George’s Rowing Clubs from having trial rowing races this afternoon. Rough water also decided the Waitemata Boating Club to abandon events scheduled for this afternoon. The club intended to stage trial fours for the Denison trophies, but the fixture has been postponed until Saturday, March 1. The Auckland Rowing Club also abandoned its intended races for trial fours. Races were held at North Shore. NORTH SHORE TRIALS Trial fours were rowed by the North Shore Rowing Club this afternoon for cups presented by the captain and the deputy-captain. "Willett (bow), McDougal, Gardiner, Carlyle (str.). Grey (bow). Church, C. Oliver, B. McCallum (str.). Eagles (bow), Walsh, Eaton, W. Seager (str.). The first heat was between McCallum and Norris and the second between Carlyle and Seagar. Morris won by half a length from McCallum, who also caught his opponent at the clubhouse. In the second heat Seagar won by a length. He was never troubled by Carlyle. In the final between Norris and Seagar, Seagar led to the clubhouse. Then they rowed on even terms to the finish, but Norris forged ahead, winning by a canvas. PICNIC POSTPONED
The North Shore Rowing Club’s picnic, which was to have been held at Pine Island, has been cancelled because of the weather.
