Mr. W. T. Morrison, Conservator of State Forests, Rotorua, has intimated that a block of timber 15 miles from Okoroire, in Patetere S.D., will be opened for milling purposes. It is estimated that this area contains only 105.320 board feet of milling timber. Mr. P. W. Smallfield, field superintendent of the Department of Agriculture, who is arranging for stores for iha unemployed to be engaged on development work near the Guthrie Settlement, has called for tenders for the carting of equipment and stores. It is now apparent that men will not be engaged before February 26. * » * A party of 13 American tourists arrived on Thursday, conducted by Mr. Wheeler, wno has undertaken to direct two further parties from overseas. * • * School children, numbering 250, will come by train from Waitoa on February 22, and will picnic on the Marine Parade.
