WOOL SALES MUST OFFER 20,000 BALES BUYERS MAY WITHDRAW Special to THE SUN CHRISTCHURCH, Today. Unless the wool selling centres in New Zealand are prepared to offer at least 20,000 bales at each of the remaining sales this season, the representatives of the woolbuying countries at present operating in the Dominion will not attend. This is the effect of a statement issued by the New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association after discussing the position at a meeting held in Christchurch today. The statement reads: “The New Zealand Woolbuyers’ Association is in receipt of instructions from the various wool federations, which have already appeared in the newspapers, and buyers will have to follow out to the pest of their ability. It is hoped that the selling end will do all that is possible to prevent the disarrangement and dislocation of the previous selling arrangements by offering reasonable quantitiesf.’ For some time now, in view of the low wool prices, there has been an agitation to have the selling season extended beyond the originally prescribed limits. This lias been vigorously opposed by the principals of the purchasing houses at home apd abroad because of the expense involved in maintaining an army of buyer's out here. The’ position has been aggravated by the announcement that the offering at the next Wellington Sale on February 19 has been cut down to 14,000 bales out of an allocation of 27,000 bales. Similarly at the Napier Sale on February 25 only 15,000 bales are to be offered out of an allocation of 25,000.
