MAIN ROUTE IMPASSABLE

ROAD TO TITIRANGI PREPARING FOR CONCRETING Heavy rain yesterday made the main road to Titirangi impassable. The extensive regrading and other earthwork construction had left the surface very soft, and this soon turned to mud in the downpour. Traffic is advised by the Waitemata County Council, which has the road under construction for the purpose of concreting, to proceed by a detour route along Portage and Godley Roads. The latter is metalled, but traffic of more than two and ahalf tons is prohibited, except for the service buses which run between Titirangi and the city daily. Portage Road, the turning to the left, at the New Lynn end of the Whaii Bridge, should be followed past the tannery to the intersection of Godley Road, indicated by a county sign. The Main Highways Board's subsidy, to enable concreting to be carried out, will not be received until next financial year, but metal will be laid as soon as regrading is completed. A number of corners have also been improved.
