AIRPLANE OVERTURNS

DUNEDIN TO AUCKLAND FLIGHT DELAYED

ACCIDENT AT WELLINGTON From Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. Caught by a strong gust of wind when taxi-ing to a take-off from Lyall Eay, Wellington, yesterday, for a nonstop flight to Dunedin, Captain J. D. Hewett’s Moth airplane was overturned and extensively damaged. Captain Hewett escaped injury, but the wings of the machine crumpled, the propeller was smashed, and the tailskid broken. Captain Hewett arrived at Wellington yesterday morning from Feilding, en route from Auckland. He delivered the Auckland Aero Club’s congratulations to Mr. F. C. Chichester on his flight from England to Australia, and then had his machine refuelled, and was ready to leave for Dunedin at 1.30 p.m., when the unfortunate mishap occurred. Members of the Wellington Aero Club offered every assistance in effecting repairs, and these would be made as soon as possible. Captain Hewett has not given up his intention of Attempting to establish a record in a non-stop flight from Dunedin to Auckland, and will continue the journey south as soon as possible.
