HARBOUR BRIDGE BORINGS
BIRKENHEAD DISCUSSION
A telegram to the Minister of Public Works stating that the council noted with regret that borings were not being taken from Birkenhead as promised by the Harbour Bridge Commission, and trusting the undertaking given would bo honoured, was replied to at the meeting of the Birkenhead Borough Council last evening by the Hon. E. A. Ransom.
The Minister said: "The uuestion of what borings should be taken is really a matter for the Harbour Bridge Commission. which, no douot. will obtain all the information it considers necessary.” He added that lie would refer the telegram to the chairman of the commission for his consideration. The Mayor. Mr. J P. McPhail. said that the telegram bad been sent because at the sittings in Auckland the chairman of the Bridge Commission gave a very definite undertaking that borings would be taken at three routes, namely. Shoal Bay to Beaumont Street. Northcote to Ponsonbj, and Birkenhead and Ponsonby. So far no borings had been taken front Birkenhead. The Mayor's action in having the tplppram spnt M-as anr.rnvoH
