FALL ON SHIP
CARPENTER’S DEATH
A verdict of accidental death was returned by the coroner, Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when an inquest was concluded yesterday into the death of Henry Grocock, who died as the result of a fall on the steamer Kairanga on January 27. Grocock, a carpenter, aged 47, was a married man living at 21 Melford Street, Pousonby. Albert James Price, also a carpenter, said Grocock had fallen from the boat deck of the steamer, striking his head on the iron well deck 7ft 6in below. He had been pulling at a locker and appeared to lose his balance. The injured man was unconscious and appeared to have injured the side of his head. Death had been due to concussion and shock, according to Dr. M. H. Haycock. Grocock had been admitted to the Auckland Hospital at 10.30 a.m. and died a few hours later.
