WESTFIELD STOCK SALE WESTFIELD, 2.30 p.m. . A slightly easier tone was registered for a fat cattle offering of approximately 735 herd at Westfield today. Best ox made to 42s a hundred; best cow and heifer to 395. Ordinary cow beef showed a slight decline, selling at from 28s to 33s a hundred. The demand at the moment is principally for light-weight beef for cutting up into small joints; extra prime big-framed cattle are not wanted by the majority of the butchers. Exporters watched the market throughout. taking an appreciable percentage of the offering. Good small prime steers met the best demand, averaging from 37 s to 39s a hundred: only Special lines made much over that figure. An offering of 306 head of steer beef was drawn from over a comparatively 'vide range, 'Waikato graziers, as usual, contributing a big percentage of the entry. Light to medium-weight feteers predominated. Top price of the day was secured Jcr a pen of extra prime big-framed steers on account Jas. Scott, Mangere, Which went to the Auckland Meat Company for £l9. Two trucks of extra choice, solid, prime steers, on account H. E. Reed, Waerenga ; , averaged £ls 19s Bd, making up to £l6 17s 6d for a pen which Vent to T. Baster, Ponsonby. One truck of medium-weight steers cn account W. Craig, Waipipi, averaged £l4 7s 6d. Cattle from the Crossing Estate, Putaruru. averaged £l4 7s 6d. One truck of handy-weight steers on account W. Proctor, Orini, averaged £l4 ss. Eleven well-finished steers on account G. H. Linstrun, Mangere, averaged £l4 7s 3d. Twenty-four handy-weight steers on Recount Robt. Clark, Waiau Pa. averaged £l3 19s Id. A line of choice quality, medium to heavy-weight steers on account Douglas W. Ariell, Cambridge, averaged £l4 19s 3d. Extra choice heavy prime cows and heifers made to £l2 ss; heavy prime, * 9 10a to £lO 15s; medium, £7 15s to £8 17s 6d. The quality of the cow and heifer offering was not up to that of late * a ‘ €s » a big percentage of indifferently finished dairy sorts coming forward. With the exception of good light 'ealers, the calf market showed an til-round decline, the bigger buyers not operating with their usual strength. Heavy vealers made to £4 L>s. Extra heavy runners made up to *7 18s, and ordinary runners to £5 10s. One of the heaviest yardings of lambs this season was made up of a big Percentage of stores. The fat sheep also lacked finish. Tfee cattle sale was not finished until after 2.30.
