UNEMPLOYED PROBLEM

SPECIAL COMMITTEE SUGGESTS NEW REMEDIES MINISTER’S COMMENTS From Our Own Correspondent WELLINGTON, Monday. “I have received the second report of the committee, and after going through it thoroughly I am very much impressed w ith the recommendations. ’ In these terms the Minister of Labour, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, commented upon the second seetional report of the committee appointed by the Government to inquire into the solution of the unemployment problem in New Zealand. “The report contains so many new and Important proposals that I am having it circulated among Ministers for their opinions. It shows that a great deal of careful and responsible research has been undertaken by the members of the committee, to whom the thanks, not only of the Government, but of the people of New Zealand as well, are due.” Continuing, the Minister said tho report dealt thoroughly with the problem. It Indicated the extent of unemployment, the reasons for it, and suggested a number of very important remedies, most of which were based on entirely new principles. The committee, which consisted of representatives of the employers, the workers and Government departments, had in its findings shown a great measure of compromise, and a sense of national duty outweighing any party advantages. This was seen in the fact that every feature of the report was unanimously agreed upon.
