ROTORUA FIXTURE

OPENS ON SATURDAY FINE ACCEPTANCE LIST t , i \\ ith splendid fields engaged, the annual, meeting of the Rotorua Racing Club, opening at Rotorua on Saturday next and concluding on the following Monday, bids fair to be one of the most enjoyable fixtures yet staged by this popular body. A nice even field of ten is left in the Rotorua Cup, and there are eleven in the sprint. In the hack races the fields, threaten to be big all round. The course is said to be in excellent order, and given fine "weather the gathering is going to prove one of the most interesting on the country circuit. Recent meetings have been responsible tor disclosing the form of most of the horses competing next week-end. and this should be of material assistance to backers in their efforts at summing up each event. The complete list of acceptors for Saturday is as follows, with the penalties inflicted on Matamata winners included in the weights: POHUTU HIGH-WEIGHT HANDICAP Of find: 1 rnil^

Costly Failures Two defeats went down against Parfait Amour at Matamata. and his displays were not so good as anticipated. Parfait Amour has a fine turn of speed but at a totalisator fixture he has managed to win only one race. A. Tinker’s other representatives, Page Boy and Archieval. were both backed to a short price, and the former was unlucky, although it did not appear as if he would have beaten the winner of the High-Weight, Unoco. The former Riccarton-owmed and trained gelding met with interference at the half-mile while he was required to cover a lot of ground. Page Boy has not been unier Tinker’s charge long, but if he still retains his pace the Te Rapa mentor will win more than one race with him. Not Stayers Two light-weights to show pace in the Matamata Cup on Saturday were Wliakama and The Sun. but neither can be accepted in the light of a stayer, and seven furlongs is the former's best distance, although she has been in a place over a mile. The Sun also came out in the Okoroire Handicap, but gave way quickly. lie beats himself in the early stages, and his education requires improvement if he is to race more conspicuously,
