FIVE SHOT AT BRIZILLAN BANQUET
VICE-PRESIDENT HURT
DE JANEIRO, Saturday.
An outrage which resulted i nthe loss of five lives was perpetrated at Montes Claros, in the State of Minas Geraes The Vice-President of Brazil, Dr. Fernando Mello Vianna, had gone to the town named with the object of endeavouring to stem the party wartare in progress in connection with the pending Presidential election. There he gave a banquet to the principal citizens.
Dr. Vianna had just made the chief speech of the evening when his enemies opened fire from the rear of the hall. The Vice-President was wounded and five other persons were killed. These included Senhor Raphaei Cleury, his secretary. Another of those killed was Senhor Dolla Bella, a well-known engineer and sportsman of Rio de Janeiro.
