Aucklanders Have Day Out at Taranaki

Five Northern Winners

CORINAX SHOWS IMPROVEMENT Special to 'THE SUN NEW PLYMOUTH, Saturday. Auckland horses won the last five races today. The successful ones were Paganelli, Corinax, Treasury, Hard Words and Joy Germ. Conditions were ideal for the second day’s racing at New Plymouth, and the smaller fields made for truer racing. The totalisator handled £24,511, making £45,933 10s for the meeting, a j decrease of £1,747 10s. Whenuanui won the Okoke Hurdles through getting to the front along the back and putting a big break on the field. It was good play. Democratic went well but was too far back in the middle stages of the race. Grecian won the Mokau Handicap well, but was lucky to get a good run nearing the home turn. The "Warden will be improved by the race. Latakia is coming on. The Sprinters Ridgcmount’s speed round the turns kept Leitrim at bay all the way in the open six-furlong event, but Leitrim ran Quito a creditable race. Llanore had no chance at any stage. Paganelli is right back to his best form. He registered a very fine performance to win the Taranaki Stakes, and at the finish had everything else in trouble. Cimabue will improve as a result. of the race, and so will Toxeuma. Eaglet was finishing on. The Big Race Pegaway ran a great race in the Paul Memorial, proving how unlucky he was in the Taranaki Cup on the first day, and Corinax likewise. Vertigern was beaten on his merits, and Yoma ran very moderately. Taneriri was backed and beaten, and Orazone went a good race, but never looked like winning. Lucy Rose failed badly. Great speed was shown by Treasury, the Grandcourt gelding from Papakura, who won the Urenui Electric Hack Handicap, but there is no certainty he will stay at all well. However, he did his part well today. I’m Alone ran a fair race, but had every advantage. Royal Finance was never sighted, and Wild Country went well for half a mile. Crennatown fell in the first furlong. The Juveniles Hard Words won his race in good style, and is standing up to racing well. Belle Star surprised by the good race she ran. Nothing finished as well as Green Linnet. The course suits Joy Germ, who won well again. Te Hoia was unlucky, but would not have won.
