TARIFF AGREEMENT
SOUTH AFRICA AND RHODESIA Reed. 11.15 a.m. CAPETOWN, Friday. The Minister of Finance, the Hon. 4 N. C. Haveoga, has detailed the terms ■ of an agreement with Northern and | Southern Rhodesia. These are principally concessions by the Union of South Africa ou Rhodesian-grown 1 tobaccos and by the northern colonies on liquor imports, motor vehicles and ! foodstuffs. The Minister stressed that the payment. of what was virtually a subsidy to secure an open market could only .be justified if they were able to anticipate an eventual political union or federation. It could not continue indefinitely, he said, and he warned manufacturers not to build industries on a settlement for which there was ' no guarantee of permanence. j
