ST. JAMES
“GOLD DIGGERS OF BROADWAY” j “Gold Diggers of Broadway,” which j is still being shown at the St. James Theatre, is a 100 per cent, natural colour, talking, singing and dancing production. It has a cast of vaudeville and musical revue stars, who sing and dance in gorgeous array. Embellished by the gaudy background of a thousand bedazzlements. the whole film is . a glittering spectacle. “Gold Diggers of Broadway” is the f most spectacular, colourful and melodic representation of Broadway theatre i life that has ever been brought to the screen. Playwrights, stage producers, and motion picture companies have for
a long time sought to catch the glamour and glitter of Broadway. It
was left for the late Avery Hopwood, the playwright, to make it live in scintillating dialogue, and for David Belasco to make a stage success of the play. In a lavish and care-free way, Warner Brothers have made “Gold Diggers of Broadway” a picture of its kind that will live in the memory. There is an excellent programme of supporting pictures, and music, which include an overture, “Orpheus” (Offenbach), by the Vitaphone Symphony Orchestra, and a clever Yiddish comedy. '
