MARKETING OF PRODUCE

SCHEME FOR AUSTRALIA NEGOTIATIONS IN ENGLAND CANBERRA, Friday. Great importance is attached to'the marketing negotiations now proceeding in London between Mr. J. E. Fenton, Australian Minister of Trade and Customs, and Mr. Philip Snowden, Chancellor of the Exchequer. The basis of the plan is Government control. A message from London says Mr. Fenton indicated in an interview that the marketing proposals follow broadly the lines laid down by Mr. Stanley Baldwin and Mr. Snowden. The former Prime Minister, speaking in the House of Commons, urged that the British Government should buy Dominion products in bulk, and distribute them to the consumer at the lowest possible margin, and arrange for free entry into the Dominion of goods not manufactured there. Mr. Snowden repliedi tha.t he wanted the permanent Economic Council to suggest the best ways of increasing the consumption of Empire products, and of benefiting the producer in the Dominions and the consumer in Britain.
