M.L.C.’S TO RETIRE
TERMS OF FOUR EXPIRE IN JUNE STRENGTH REDUCED TO 38 From Our Resident Reporter WELLINGTON, Today. On Jinn 1 four members of tbs Legislative Council are due to retire, their seven, years’ term having expired. They are the Hon. J. Craigie, of Canterbury, the Hon. F. Mander, of Auckland, the Hon. E. NewmaE. of Wellington, and the Hon. W. Riti* tana, of Auckland. The present strength of the Council is 42, including the Speaker, so that after June 1 it will be reduced to «& It is probable, since the custom is fo keep the membership at about 40, that some of the retiring members may be reappointed or else new ones chosen to fill the vacancies.
