AFRICA, ENGLAND AND CANADA MEET
SEEING NEW ZEALAND *
On February 25 parties of farmer* from England, Canada and South Africa will meet in. Auckland, to com. mence one of the most comprehend sive tours that lips ever yet been undertaken in any part of the Empire The British Empire farmers’ tour habeen most efficiently organised. Tha South African members of the party will arrive in Auckland by the re maroa on Tuesday, February- is and a tour of the North Auckland district will be begun immediately. tw will return by express from Whang/ rei on February 24 and will be joined on the following day by the English party, which is due by the Remuera on February 25. The Canadian party is expected by the Aorangi on Februarv 23. The official party numbers 85, made tip of eight married couples, six single women and 3S single men from Great Britain, seven single women and l? single men from South Africa and two married couples and one single woman and one single man trom Canada. Three officials and three baggage men are also accompanying the party. AUCKLAND PROGRAMME Details of the tour have been a.-, ranged by Mr. J. Row, of Wellington secretary of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. After the parties hare united on February 25 they will spend the day in sightseeing about Auckland and will be the guests of the Auckland branch of the Farmers’ Union and the Farmers’ Trading Com pany. In the morning they will motor to Ellerslie racecourse and the Westfield freezing works. They will return by way of One Tree Hill to Mount Eden. The official welcome will take place at a luncheon in the Mount Eden kiosk, when it is anticipated that there will be about 120 guests. In the afternoon the farmers will yi s i t the Farmers’ Trading Company’s warehouse and Prince’s Wharf. in the evening they will leave for Hamilton. On February 26 they will visit Hamilton. Ruakura, Matangi, Cambridge and Morrinsville, reaching Rotorua that night by special train. Thursday will be devoted to sightseeing at Rotorua and /on Friday tho party will motor to National Park, leaving next morning for the Waitomo Hostel, where they will spend the night. On Sunday, March 2, the party will travel to New Plymouth by motor and will visit centres in Taranaki and Wellington before going to the South Island. The tour there will also be a. very compre hensive and rapid one. It has been noted that the present plan provides for the visitors to be sightseeing at. Rotorua and National Park during the three days of the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Society’s Show, February 27 and 28. and March 1. The association discussed the matter with the organisers of the tour, but owing to the delay of the Remuera several suggestions that were put forward have been found not now practicable. However, arrangements are being made for those who wish to see the Auckland Show to remain here and rejoin the other members of the party on their return from Rotorua. A special train will be used for the tour in each island and arrangements have been made for an officer of the Agricultural Department to accompany the party. FARMING METHODS After the conclusion of the South Island visit, the overseas farmers wi’i leave New Zealand on March 25. The Canadian members of the party will sail from Wellington by the Makura, and the British and South African representatives plan to leave Auckland by the Niagara for Sydney. About the same time as the party is risking New Zealand another group of farmers will be touring Australia Farming methods in New Zealand will be studied and close attention will be paid to the methods .of grading and marketing goods.
