COUNCILLOR FINED
INTERESTED IN CONTRACT Press Association DUNEDIN. Todav. In the Police Court today Mr. 1-1. w. Bundle found against Edgar Arnold Fox. who was proceeded against by the Audit Department ol three informations of having acte* as a councillor to the Oamaru Borough when he was actually disqualified from doing so. Defendant, a member of Gay’s Oamaru Stone Company, had offered to supply stone to the Oamaru Beautifying Society to erect a wall in Severn Street, work which was taken over ,by the Borough Council. Ultimately the contract was let to one Docherty, who used Gay’s stone. The magistrate held that, while it was not established that Docherty acted as at dummy for Fox, the latter was interested in the contract entered into by the borough and was therefore disqualified. He had acted as a councillor later, taking part in a discussion on Docherty’s contract, and would be fined £ls, with costs. Security was fixed for appeal.
