EMPTY HOUSE DAMAGED

OLD ONEHUNGA SCHOOL

Extensive damage was done to an unoccupied four-roomed house in Symonds Street, Onehunga, when a fire broke out at about eight o’clock last evening. The Onehunga Brigade responded to the alarm, and although the flames had a strong hold when it arrived, it quickly brought the outbreak under control.

The building, which was an old one, had been used some 60 years ago as a school, but later additions had been made and it had been converted into a house. It was part of the estate of the late Mr. Thomas O’Keefe, and had been unoccupied since his death about two years ago. It is believed to have changed ownership last month.
