EX-POLICEMEN ON TRIAL
BURGLARY AND RECEIVING ONE PLEADS GUILTY Press Association WELLINGTON, Wednesday. A plea of guilty to the charge of breaking and entering the shop of C. i Smith, Ltd., on various dates between I June 25 and December 17, 1929, and stealing goods valued at £I6G ISs Sd, was entered by Joseph Maurice White, artist, and Wilfred Leonard Ramin, ex-constable, in the Supreme Court today. White also admitted breaking and entering the shop on December 17 with intent to commit a crime and having been found in possession of house-breaking implements. Both men were remanded for sentence. Hugh Robertson Stevenson, who up to the time of his arrest was a constablo, was charged jointly with Ramin and White with breaking and entering the shop and with theft, between June 25 and December 17, and with receiving goods valued at £l7 5s knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. He pleaded not guilty to "both charges. Evidence was given by White. After 20 minutes’ retirement the jury returned with a verdict of guilty on the charge of receiving and ac- j cused was remanded until Saturday j for sentence.
