LINDBERGH CRASHES
MISHAP TO AIRMAN IN GLIDER FLIGHT NEW YORK, Monday. Colonel Charles Lindbergh escaped injury when a glider he was testing crashed in the mountains in the neighbourhood of Sandberg, California. Onlookers immediately dispatched runners to the assistance of the airman. They reported that the glider had been towed by an airplane from the side of the hill and released in the face of a high wind. An aileron was then seen to fall and the accident followed. Seeing the aileron drop from the glider, Lindbergh attempted to hank, but instead of landing in an upright position his machine rammed the hillside from which he had taken off.
