UNWELCOME VISITOR
SHOULD BE ON ROTO ROA SAYS MAGISTRATE TO MAKE INVESTIGATION “What's lie doing: here, when I sent him to Roto Roa Island?” asked Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M., when William Henry Nassau Carnahan appeared before him at the Police Court this morning. Carnahan was fined a total of £1 10s and ordered to return immediately to the island. Described as an accountant, aged 45, Carnahan was charged with being found drunk yesterday and breaking the terms of his prohibition order. “I’m afraid I was drunk,” he admitted. “He gets up to the City on some pretext or other,” put in Staff-Captain Holmes, of the Salvation Army. “It’s not right that he should be here.” “I suppose he pitches them a tale,” agreed the magistrate. “I shall be down at the island this Sunday and I shall look into it. It will be three months next time.” Carnahan explained that he had a drink or two. as he had not felt well. He had not been required to give any excuse to get off the island. Accused was fined 10s for drunkenness and £1 for the breach of the order. Total default of the fine was fixed at five days’ imprisonment.
