“EXPENSIVE JOKE”

CAR TAKEN “FOR A PRANK” TWO STEWARDS FINED Press Association WELLINGTON, Today. The plea that they took a car for a prank did not help two Tainui stewards, Shillibeer and Harvey, today. The magistrate merely told them it was an expensive joke sometimes to the owners and imposed fines of £5, -with an alternative of 14 days in gaol, both to be placed aboard if the fines were not paid when the ship sailed. The car, the property of a watersider, was taken from the wharves in the view of a constable who effected the arrest.
