NEARING COMPLETION WATERFRONT ALTERATIONS Practically SO per cent. o£ the Western Reclamation has been completed to the required level. In a report to the Auckland Harbour Board this afternoon the engineer, Mr. D. Holderness, stated that Progress in the filling' of the reclamation had been satisfactory. For the three months ended January 6 the total filling from ail sources as determined by levels and soundings was 57,000 cubic yards, making the total to date of 680,291 cubic yards. During the same period 970 cubic yards of stone facing had been laid. On the eastern section of the viaduct pile-driving had finished on December 20 and the remainder of the wall had been concreted. Timber fenders, kerbing and belting were being fixed and the water service and other minor works were being pushed on as quickly as possible. Pile-making for the western section of the viaduct had been started, and pile-driving for the new section will start on February 30. Except for two small sections, all the timber structures of the old Albert and Fitzroy wharves have been demolished. The concrete wall for the extension of the reclamation at Bayswater for the Takapuna Boating Club for hauling up boats is well in hand and the Takapuna Borough Council is ~ expected to start supplying spoil almost immediately.
