UNITING TRIBES
MAORI ORGANISATION FOR DOMINION MOVEMENT PLANNED A discussion between natives representative of the principal Maori areas of New Zealand with the formation of an all-New Zealand organisation to watch the interests of the natives in view will probably be arranged. The question was discussed by the Akarana Maori Association last evening, and it was decided to make inquiries ‘from the secretaries of the detached Maori organisations throughout New Zealand concerning the holding of a conference. The idea of an association for all tribes first came from the Ngapuhi League, of North Auckland. Besides the Akarana Association and the Ngapuhi League, there are the Treaty of Waitangi Native Welfare Deague, the Arawa League, the Maniapoto District Council, the. Pukekohe Maori Committee, the Young Maori Party*, societies in Hawke’s Bay, the East Coast, Taranaki, Wanganui, and an organisation in the South Island.
