NORTH OTAGO CUT OFF

POWER-LINE TOWER FALLS LAKE COLERIDGE SUPPLY Press Association OAMARU, Wednesday. At. 3.30 this afternoon the central one of the three towers conveying the Lake Coleridge power lines over the Waitaki River collapsed, disconnecting the whole of North Otago from the hydro-electric scheme. The tower supported lines carrying 66,000 volts. Oamaru and the surrounding districts are totally dependent upon the local board’s own small plant. Mr. Grant, Public Works engineer, is in charge of the repair work, and he has summoned the aid of the men employed on the Waitaki hydro-electric work above Kurow. It is hoped to effect temporary repairs by noon tomorrow.
