Concliff Fancied For Addington

NICELY TREATED WRACKLER TOUGH RIVAL Taking a line through cheir running in the Wellington Cup. WrackJer, the winner, penalised 12 yards, j and Concliff, runner-up, unpenal- ' ised, should on the handicapper's reckoning again beat those they prevailed over last Saturday, when they meet at Addington on February 8. The contest in question is the Midsummer Handicap, a thousand-poun-der, with a 4.30 limit, to be decided at the one-day summer fixture of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club. Such a useful class and rich prize could not fail to draw a liberal response, and many of the best pacers in the land have been accorded an entry. As already mentioned, a number of those appearing in the handicap met last week-end in the Wellington Gold Cup, when Wrackler (4.26) defeated Concliff (4.27), with Qualitv (4.25) in third berth. Dundas Boy (4.26) Daphne de Oro and King Pointer (4.27) were among the unplaced division. Should Beat Them Again In compiling his adjustment for the big race at Addington, Mr. Paul has considered it only necessary to bring the Gold Cup winner back 12 yards, leaving the second horse, Concliff, on his original mark. While this treatment will certainly appeal to the owners of the two horses referred to. it will not give those whose candidates were defeated last Saturday much encouragement to tackle the job. Those who finished behind. Wrackler and Concliff, at Hutt Park, will probablv do so again at Addington, There will no doubt be solid opposition forthcoming from some of the others likely to take part in the race. Several are racing today at Forburv Park, and further light will be thrown on the prospects for Canterbury’s big handicap. If Wrackler scores at Dunedin he will no doubt be penalised another 12 yards, but Concliff, who is not racing at the Otago fixture, will retain his Addington mark, and on recent form W. J. Tomkinson’s pacer will be the most difficult to dispose of.
