SHEFFIELD CRICKET
PLAY BEGUN IN DULL WEATHER SYDNEY, Tuesday. The Sheffield Shield match Victoria v. New South Wales was begun to- ! day at Sydney. The home side in their first innings made 330 runs (Bradman 77, McCabe 29, Allsop Go. Fairfax 64, Davidson 22. Hooker 30). Hendry took two wickets for 4 runs. Ironmonger three for 100. A’Beckett two for 57, Blackie one for 69. Alexander one for 79. Ryder one for 6. Victoria in their first innings had lost two wickets for 45 when stumps were drawn (Ponsford 13. Hendry not out 21, Ryder not out 10). The match was commenced in dull weather on a wicket which was like concrete after having been covered. Ryder, the Victoria captain, won the toss, but sent New South Wales in. Three good batsmen went for 54. but Bradman once again stopped a procession, and Allsopp, with the assistance of the last few men. brought the score to a useful level before the innings closed.
