BLIND MAN ESCAPES FIRE

HOME AND CONTENTS BURNED From Our Own Correspondent NEW PLYMOUTH, Today. Fire destroyed a house in James Street, Inglewood, yesterday morning, owned by Mr. G. F. Symonds. Mr. and Mrs. Symonds were awakened by the noise of the flames, and escaped after rescuing their child and throwing some clothes out of a window. Mr. Symonds, who is blind, then tried to call the brigade, but he was hampered by his blindness, and it was some time before the firemen arrived. The house and almost all the contents were destroyed. The building was insured for £250. and the furniture for £2OO in the State Office.
