WHEAT FROM CANADA

CONVERSATIONS WITH ENGLISH MINISTER British Official 'Wireless RUGBY, Monday. Mr. J. H. Thomas, Minister in charge of Unemployment, is to meet representatives of the Canadian Wheat Pool next week in London. They will continue their discussions about the importation of Canadian grain, which he initiated on his visit to Canada last summer. The interview was arranged when Mr. Thomas was in Canada to explore possible ways of reducing unemployment in Britain. The Minister is understood to have inquired whether shipments of Canadian wheat to Britain could not be so made as to regularise the shipment of return cargoes from Britain, and so enable British goods to compete more effectively with foreign imports on the Canadian markets. BUTTER AND CHEESE Merchants reports receipt of overseas cables as follows: Leonard and Son, Limited, from A. C. Rowson and Company, Limited: “Cheese, New Zealand, white, 91s; coloured, 89s; market firm, with upward tendency; demand active, and speculative in anticipation of a temporary shortage during February. Butter, New Zealand, first grade, 1545; finest, 1555; market for butter steady; do not anticipate much change. Demand slow.”
