MAORI GIRL DROWNED
FALL INTO RIVER FATALITY NEAR DARGAVILLE Press Association DARGAVILLE, Today. A Maori girl, Edith Gordon Marau, was drowned on Saturday afternoon in the Awakino River, at Waihua. The child and a companian were with their grandmother, who was washing clothes in the river. The grandmother went away to get more clothes and when she returned the little girl Edith was missed. Later she was discovered in the river entangled in a snag, with her feet uppermost. X t is surmised that the ci-ild fell off a log on which she was playing. At the inquest a verdict of accidental death due to drowning was returned.
