LOCAL BODIES’ EMPLOYEES About 900 attended the annual picnic of the Auckland and Suburban Local Bodies Employees’ Union, held on Saturday at Pine Island. LABOUR’S OUTING At the annual picnic arranged by the combined Auckland branches of the New Zealand Labour Party, many hundreds went yesterday to Pine Island on the Peregrine. Music was given on the ferry and at the island by the Waterside Workers’ Band. The arrangements were carried out by Mr. J. Hoole, secretary to the committee, and the judges for the shorts and the competitions were Messrs. F. N. Bartram, member of the City Council. W. T. Anderton and D. Wilson. For the impromptu speech contest a special prize, a rug to be known as the Tamasese Memorial Prize, has been given by Samoans in Auckland. Air. Charles Morris won the first contest.
