ROBBED HIS HOST
TWO WATCHES AND CHAIN GONE SIX MONTHS’ GAOL “I can get the liquor,” said Gerald Thomas Silk, and left his new friend sitting in his bedroom at an hotel. Silk thoughtfully took the man’s two watches, a chain and a sovereign with him. He appeared at the Police Court this morning and was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment. Described as a labourer, aged 30, Silk pleaded guilty to the theft of two watches, a chain and a sovereign pendant valued at £ 20, on January 25. Chief-Detective Hammond said the man had met complainant on Saturday evening. His new friend had taken Silk to his room at an hotel. Silk had offered to go out and get something to drink. After he had gone complainant missed his watches and informed the police. Silk was found with the watches and chain in his possession. The pendant had been sold for 15s but all the property had now been recovered.
