VALUELESS CHEQUES
MAN CHARGED AT DUNEDIN Press Association DUNEDIN, Friday. In the Dunedin Police Court today, Herbert Edwards was charged with attempting to obtains goods valued at £ls 15s from the D.I.C. by falsely representing that a cheque on the Bank of New Zealand at Gore for £25 was valid. There were two other similar charges. Chief-Detective Cameron stated that, when arreseted, accused was in a bad condition through drink. About £BO had been drawn by means of valueless cheques. The police reported that he had been working with his sons and some men near Gore, having taken a contract to cut posts, but had left the party penniless and without provisions. Accused was remanded for report, the magistrate stating that he would probably be sent to gaol on one charge.
