CHAMPIONSHIP TENNIS

PLAY AT STANLEY STREET C GRADE CONTESTS With the improved weather conditions of the past few days tennis courts have had a chance to dry out. Play this afternoon on all courts under the control of the Auckland Lawn Tennis Association, as a result, was, generally, of a better standard. usual, Stanley Street was the main centre of inter-club play, all courts being taxed to capacity. The principal event of the day was the C grade championship tournament which attracted entries from all the principal clubs of the district, many of the younger players coming forward, and showing a standard of play decidedly encouraging to the promoters of the tournament. The enterprise of the association in conducting this tournament is to be commended as it gives players who are not quite up to senior standard an opportunity to gain experience at championship play with players of their own class.
