YOUNG WIFE’S FRAUDULENT ACTIONS MAGISTRATE SYMPATHETIC The unusual state of her health was advanced as an excuse when a young married woman was charged*! the Police Court this morning with obtaining goods from city firms bJ false pretences. The case was ad journed for six months and accused’s name was suppressed. The young woman, whose age was given as 22, was charged with obtain ing clothing valued at £3 3s Id fron a city store on December 6 by falsely representing that she was a nurs< employed in an Auckland hospital There was a second count of obtain ing clothing valued at £5 Is Id oi December 19 by the same means. Mi G. P. Finlay appeared for accuse and entered pleas of guilty. “I thought it would be better t< have a dispassioned opinion on thi case so I have asked the probatioi officer, Major Gordon, to make inqui l ies,” remarked counsel. “Yes, I have seen her report/’ saai the magistrate. “Her health was no too good and women at these time will do strange things, even wbei there is no need for them.” Chief-Detective Hammond points out that a serious aspect of the cas was that the woman had opened at counts with two firms, in each instant- 1 giving another person's name.
