“BIG BROTHER”

MR. WILFORD ENTERTAINED IN LONDON HINT TO NEW GOVERNOR Reed. 10.30 a.m. LONDON, Tuesday. A dove of peace, modelled in ice, and dripping somewhat, stood before Mr. Wilford at the Royal Empire Society’s lunch, at which Lord Bledisloe and Mr. Wilford were guests. Sir John Sandeman Allen presided. Lord Forster, Viscount Jellicoe, Lord Passfield, the Earl of Liverpool and Lord Alexander were present. Lord Bledisloe referred to Mr. Wilford as his big brother and said the New Zealand producer received 75 per cent, of the amount paid by tile consumer for produce, whereas in Britain the proportion was 35 to 40 per cent. He predicted New Zealand might supply grass and clover seed which Britain now obtained from Scandinavia and Central Europe. Mr. Wilford said if Lord Bledisloe took out an SO-pound cheese from his own factories, as it was understood he proposed to do, the New Zealand cheese fanciers would not worship him.
